Trade Specific Competencies

Cable Splicing and Termination

Proficiency in joining and terminating various types of cables (e.g., fiber optic, copper).

Knowledge of Tools and Equipment

Proficiency in using specialized tools for cable installation and maintenance, such as cable cutters, crimpers, and splicing kits.

Testing and Troubleshooting

Ability to use testing equipment (e.g., OTDR, multimeters) to diagnose and resolve connectivity issues.

Understanding of Telecommunications Systems

Familiarity with how different telecommunications systems operate, including voice, data, and video services.

Reading Blueprints and Schematics

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics related to telecommunications infrastructure.

Signal Testing and Analysis

Skills in analyzing signal quality and integrity for troubleshooting and maintenance purposes.

General Requirements

Academic qualification

  • Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education 

     

Professional qualification

  • Completion of a vocational training programme in electrical engineering, electronics and telecommunications 

Experience

  • 2-5 years' relevant working experience is preferable
