  • Electrical Engineers research into electrical engineering problems, design and advise on electrical systems and equipment. They are responsible for planning and supervising the development, construction, manufacture, installation, operation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems and equipment.

Trade Specific Competencies

Professional knowledge and skills in electrical engineering

Electrical Engineers have to design and develop complex electrical systems. They must be able to focus on keeping track of multiple design elements and technical characteristics when performing these tasks.

Communication knowledge and skills

Electrical Engineers work closely with other engineers and technicians. They must be able to explain their designs clearly and to relay instructions during product development and production. They may also need to explain complex issues to customers who have little or no technical expertise.

General Requirements

Academic qualification

  • Normally have a bachelor's degree in electrical/ building services engineering related discipline.  Holders of relevant higher diplomas can articulate to related degree programmes.

Professional qualification

  • Corporate membership of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) in Electrical Engineering Discipline, or equivalent

Experience

  • 4 to 6 years of relevant work experience
