  • Occupational Therapists assess, plan, organise, and participate in rehabilitative and remedial programmes that help build or restore vocational, homemaking, and daily living skills, as well as general independence, to persons with disabilities or developmental delays. They are also responsible for providing training to caregivers.

Occupational Therapists must be flexible in apply the knowledge and skills in occupational therapy and design different rehabilitation and treatment plans to help patients with various diseases to prevent, reduce or overcome disabilities.

General Requirements

Academic qualification

  • usually have a Professional Diploma or a bachelor of science degree in occupational therapy.

Professional qualification

  • must be a registered Occupational Therapist under the Supplementary Medical Professions Ordinance

Other specific requirements

  • must hold a valid practicing certificate issued by the Supplementary Medical Professions Council of Hong Kong

Work Environment

  • Occupational Therapists mostly work in Hospital Authority and Department of Health and others work in private practice. They usually work full-time schedules within regular business hours and may be required to lift and move patients or heavy equipment.
