Product Designers

Descriptions & Duties

  • Product Designers originate and develop ideas to design, create, modify and arrange the form of products, layouts and containers for the products based on factors such as design-function relationship, knowledge of design, art concepts, market and pricing characteristics, client specifications, method and cost of production to achieve aesthetically pleasing and functional effect for the products. Their duties include determining the objectives, requirements and constraints of the design; preparing sketches of the design and evaluating feasibility of design ideas; coordinating staff in the drafting of working drawings and the fabrication of samples for finished products; recommending appropriate materials and production methods; overseeing the final production of their designs.

General Requirements

Academic qualification

  • normally have a higher diploma or a bachelor's degree in product design, or related field

Professional qualification

  • holding full membership of the Hong Kong Designers Association is preferable

Experience

  • usually 3 to 5 years of design experience is required
