Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Maintenance Technician

Descriptions & Duties

  • The Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Maintenance Technician performs hands-on inspection, diagnostics, repair, and preventive maintenance of unmanned aircraft systems used in logistics, delivery, inspection, and related low-altitude economy applications. Key duties include troubleshooting and repairing airframes, propulsion systems, batteries and power systems, sensors, avionics, communication modules and flight control software; conducting pre- and post-flight checks; calibrating equipment; ensuring compliance with Civil Aviation Department regulations and safety standards; preparing technical reports; and supporting the readiness of UAS fleets for commercial logistics operations. The role emphasises battery safety, software diagnostics, and rapid turnaround to minimise downtime in Hong Kong’s growing low-altitude logistics ecosystem.

Trade Specific Competencies

UAS Systems Diagnostics and Repair

Specialised skills in diagnosing and repairing unmanned aircraft systems, including lithium battery packs, electric propulsion, flight controllers, sensors, and communication systems. This involves using diagnostic software and tools, performing structural and electrical repairs, ensuring compliance with the Civil Aviation Department Small Unmanned Aircraft Order (Cap.448G) and airworthiness standards, conducting risk assessments, and maintaining detailed technical records to support safe and reliable operations in Hong Kong’s low-altitude airspace.

General Requirements

Academic qualification

  • A higher diploma in aircraft maintenance engineering, electrical engineering or equivalent

Experience

  • 2 to 4 years of relevant work experience

  • Work takes place in specialised workshops, logistics hubs, outdoor testing or operational sites, and at vertiports or temporary deployment locations.
