  • Coffee Processing Technician
    A professional who operates equipment to process coffee cherries into green coffee beans, roasted beans, and other coffee products or by-products.

    Key Responsibilities:
    1. Operate fermentation, sorting, and hulling equipment to process coffee cherries into graded green beans.
    2. Use roasting and grinding machines to produce roasted beans and other coffee products.
    3. Evaluate green bean quality through sensory and instrumental analysis, providing feedback on processing methods.
    4. Assess roasted bean quality via sensory/instrumental tests, optimizing roasting techniques.
    5. Operate packaging systems (canning, bagging, liquid filling) for coffee products.
    6. Recycle and repurpose coffee by-products (e.g., cascara for teas).
    7. Maintain proper storage of raw materials and finished products.
    8. Provide technical guidance on coffee cultivation, processing, and production.

Proficiency in operating and maintaining specialised coffee processing machinery including fermenters, sorting equipment, hullers, roasters, grinders, and packaging systems to ensure efficient and consistent production of green beans, roasted beans, and finished coffee products.

Coffee Quality Evaluation and Sensory Analysis

The ability to assess the quality of green and roasted coffee beans through sensory evaluation (aroma, flavor, body) and instrumental analysis, identifying defects, grading beans, and using findings to optimize processing and roasting techniques.

Food Safety and Hygiene Management in Coffee Production

Expertise in implementing and adhering to strict food safety protocols, hygiene standards, and storage conditions throughout the coffee processing chain to prevent contamination and ensure product safety and quality.
