Customs & Excise Officers

Descriptions & Duties

  • Customs & Excise Officers mainly deployed on law enforcement activities relating to revenue protection and collection, anti-narcotics, anti-smuggling and intellectual property rights protection. They are subject to discipline under the Customs and Excise Service Ordinance and required to wear uniform, carry firearms, work irregular hours and may work Hong Kong.
    They are responsible for conducting checks on passengers, cargoes, postal parcels, and conveyances, for compliance with government rules and regulations;
    conducting regular maritime and land patrols within Hong Kong territories;
    monitoring the import and export of goods and the licensing of the movement of prohibited and prescribed articles;
    participating in combating drug trafficking activities;
    participating in combating illicit cigarettes and illicit fuel activities;
    participating in combating pirated and counterfeit goods activities;
    cooperating with other law enforcement departments in the investigation and prosecution of those suspects in violation of customs laws;
    collecting samples of merchandises for examination or testing;
    performing related administrative tasks.

Trade Specific Competencies

Import and export control law enforcement knowledge and skills

Customs & Excise Officers must be able to prevent smuggling and narcotics as a law enforcement team. They may need to answer the visitors' enquiries on import and export declarations. They may identify the problem and provide support and solution to their colleagues.

General Requirements

Academic qualification

  • attained DSE: Level 2 in 5 Subjects

Other specific requirements

  • language ability:- DSE: Level 2 in English & Chinese; Eyesight Test; must be fluent in Cantonese; must be Hong Kong permanent resident
