Police Inspectors

Descriptions & Duties

  • Police Inspectors are mainly deployed to manage and supervise a team of police officers. They maintain law and order, prevent and investigate crimes, and handle queries from the public. They examine crime scenes to searching for clues and evidence, observe the activities of suspects, analyse evidence in order to identify criminal activity and gather information for court cases. They also prepare reports on progress of investigation, maintaining informational files on suspects, and submit reports to apply for arrests or warrants. They will be subject to discipline under the Police Force Ordinance.

Police Inspectors must be able to direct and manage a team and complete different missions to prevent crimes.

General Requirements

Academic qualification

  • A bachelor's degree; or diploma/ higher diploma/ associate degree; or attained Level 3 in 5 subjects in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE)

Other specific requirements

  • Level 1 in English & Chinese in Common Recruitment Examination (CRE) or Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in HKDSEE; read and write Chinese and speak fluent Cantonese; pass a Physical Fitness Test; pass an Eyesight Test (with no eyesight correction tools); physical standards (height and weight): 163cm and 50kg for male, 152cm and 42kg for female; permanent resident of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and have resided in Hong Kong for at least seven years

Work Environment

  • Police Inspectors are required to work shifts and/ or irregular hours and work in an area outside the HKSAR.
