Descriptions & Duties

  • Postmen perform collecting, processing and delivering mail to residences and businesses.
    They are responsible for collecting and sorting letters and parcels;
    delivering mail to residences and business establishments according to the specified routes;
    returning incorrectly addressed mail to senders;
    getting receivers' signatures for registered mail;
    operating postal equipment e.g., mail processing and sorting machinery;
    recording address changes and redirecting mail for those addresses;
    handling counter transactions and answering customers' enquiries about postal services.

Work Environment

  • Postmen generally work both outdoors and indoors. They work outdoors to deliver mail. They work in a post office to sort mail. They need to work overtime particularly during the holiday season. They require repetitive lifting of heavy mail bags.
