Sheet-Metal Workers

Descriptions & Duties

  • Sheet-Metal Workers make sheetmetal articles of thickness not exceeding 10 s.w.g. (or 3.2 mm) such as containers, ducts, ornaments according to specifications. They also assemble, join and repair components by welding, brazing, soldering and/or riveting. Their duties include selecting types of sheet metal for cutting and shaping; laying out, measuring and marking dimensions and reference lines on metal sheets; shaping metal over anvils; installing metal sheets with supportive frameworks; trimming, grinding, or smoothing surfaces or joints of assembled parts; fastening seams and examining product quality to verify conformance to specifications.
