Hospital & Clinic Assistants

Descriptions & Duties

  • Hospital & Clinic Assistants provide day-to-day logistical and administrative assistance to a medical clinic or hospital unit. They have to triage patients and schedule appointments; screen and transfer phone calls, and communicate and interact with patients. They also provide clerical support to the unit, and assist with clinical and/ or laboratory procedures as required.
    They are responsible for taking and recording patients' vital signs, as appropriate to clinic operations; instructing patients as needed regarding administrative and/ or logistical procedures; obtaining patient histories, and insurance approvals as appropriate;
    arranging for prescribed laboratory tests, specialist referrals, and/ or diagnostic procedures;
    ordering and maintaining inventories of supplies;
    assisting in maintaining the cleanliness and serviceability of unit facilities and equipment.

Operation and management knowledge of clinics

Hospital & Clinic Assistants must have a basic understanding of the operation and management of clinics in order to systematically and efficiently handle the daily operation of clinics.

Pharmacology and dispensing knowledge

Hospital & Clinic Assistants must know the dispensing procedures and drug labels to ensure that they can dispense drugs according to the doctor's instructions.

General Requirements

Academic qualification

  • Usually have secondary 5 or above education level; completion of Care-related Support Worker (CRSW) courses is preferable
