  • Secondary School Teachers teach academic lessons and various skills at secondary school level that help prepare students to attend university or to enter the job market after graduation. General Requirements

Academic qualification

  • generally hold a bachelor's degree of education from the Education University of Hong Kong, or a bachelor's degree in any subjects from a Hong Kong university, or equivalent

Professional qualification

  • must be registered under the Education Ordinance as either a registered teacher or a permitted teacher

Other specific requirements

  • normally have a post-graduate Diploma in Education, or equivalent; usually need to undergo a period of fieldwork, commonly referred to as student teaching. During student teaching, they work with a mentor teacher and gain experience teaching students in a classroom setting.

Work Environment

  • Secondary School Teachers generally work during school hours. They often spend time in the evenings and at weekends grading papers and preparing lessons. They may meet with parents, students, and other teachers before and after school.
