General Requirements
Academic qualification
- generally hold a certificate/ higher diploma in education for primary school teachers or a bachelor's degree of education from the Education University of Hong Kong (formerly known as Hong Kong Institute of Education), or hold a bachelor's degree in any subjects from a Hong Kong university, or equivalent
Professional qualification
- must be registered under the Education Ordinance as either a registered teacher or a permitted teacher
Other specific requirements
- normally have a post-graduate Diploma in Education, or equivalent; usually need to undergo a period of fieldwork, commonly referred to as student teaching. During student teaching, they work with a mentor teacher and gain experience teaching students in a classroom setting.
