Trade Specific Competencies

Knowledge and skills in enforcing of principles and practices of air traffic control

Air Traffic Officers must always apply knowledge of principles and practices of air traffic control in order to identify and solve problems arising in the course of their work. They must be able to initiate and organise emergency, search and rescue services and procedures.

General Requirements

Academic qualification

  • At least secondary school education, with Level 3 or above in five subjects in Hong Kong Diploma of secondary school education Examination (HKDSEE), or equivalent

Other specific requirements

  • Meet the language proficiency requirements of Level 3 or above in English Language, and Level 2 or above in Chinese Language in HKDSEE, or equivalent; must be medically fit to meet the requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization standards for Air Traffic Control Officers; must be able to communicate effectively in English; require overseas flying training in single-engine light aircraft and specialized air traffic control training on local procedures
