Immigration Assistants

Descriptions & Duties

  • Immigration Assistants are mainly deployed on general search, guard, escort, patrol, reception, driving and operational duties in connection with the enforcement of the immigration, registration of persons, births, deaths and marriage laws of Hong Kong, which include, but not limited to, the detection of forged documents. Subject to discipline, they are required to undergo a full-time induction training, wear uniform, work shifts and may be required to drive government vehicles and may work outside Hong Kong.
    They are responsible for examining individuals' passports, visas and other travel documents to determine their eligibility for entering and leaving Hong Kong;
    detaining persons found to be in violation of immigration laws;
    participating in combating forged travel documents activities;
    performing registration of births, deaths and marriage duties;
    cooperating with other law enforcement departments in the investigation and prosecution of those suspects in violation of immigration laws;
    performing related administrative tasks.

Trade Specific Competencies

Immigration control law enforcement knowledge and skills

Immigration Assistants must be familiar with law on immigration control. They may need to identify the person to be detained at the control point with high passenger traffic and limited time. They may also need to explain the immigration policy and procedures to visitors.

General Requirements

Academic qualification

  • have relevant bachelor's degree or Higher Diploma/ Asso Degree or attained DSE: Level 3 in 5 Subjects

Other specific requirements

  • language ability:- CRE: Level 1 or DSE: Level 2 in English & Chinese; must pass the Fitness Test
