  • Reporters research and report information of interests to the public. Analyse news releases. Interview people. Attend public functions, visit scenes of accidents and obtain information from all relevant sources. Submit information in written or audio form. Conduct live or taped reports, or interviews. Write in conformity with prescribed editorial style and format.

Trade Specific Competencies

Knowledge in journalism, communication and media

Reporters should know about media production, communication, and various ways to deliver content orally or visually, through text or video, on conventional and digital platforms. Reporters should be able to carry out their duties accurately, timely, legally and ethically, according to the essential principles and practices of journalism.

Reporting skills

Reporters should have strong verbal communication skills and excellent listening skills. He/She should be organised and be able to grasp complex issues and explain them in simple language under pressures of time-sensitive situation.

General Requirements

Academic qualification

  • generally have a bachelor's degree in journalism, media, communications, translation or related disciplines

Experience

  • at least 2 to 5 years' relevant experience

Other specific requirements

  • May have to work on 24-hour shift.

Work Environment

  • Reporters work for newspaper, or in radio or television broadcasting. A considerable working hours will be spent in the field for conducting interviews and investigating stories. Little time will be spent in the office, may need travel to specified location for reporting news.
