Trade Specific Competencies

Customer-service skills

Bank Tellers are the first people that a customer sees at the bank and so, they must be courteous and tactful. They need to understand customers' needs and provide appropriate banking service to customers.

Detail oriented

Bank Tellers must pay attention to details and be sure not to make errors when dealing with customers' money.


Bank Tellers may have access to sensitive or private information and they must keep them confidential.

Mathematics skills

Bank Tellers must be good at arithmetic because they often handle large amounts of money.

General Requirements

Academic qualification

  • usually have secondary 5 or above education level. With Grade E/ Level 2 or above in Chinese Language, English Language and Mathematics in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary school education Examination (HKDSEE)/ Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) is preferable. Holder of a Certificate/Diploma in Banking/Finance or related discipline is an advantage.


  • 1-2 years' relevant working experience in teller, customer service, sales or telemarketing is preferable
