Food & Beverage Managers

Descriptions & Duties

  • Food & Beverage Managers plan, organise, direct and control operation of food and beverage establishments in an efficient and manner so as to satisfy customers with good dining experience. Food & Beverage Managers determine payroll and operating costs so as to establish food and beverage prices and to ensure that the business is profitable, as well as to make improvements in service procedures and guest relations. They also organise special food and beverage promotions and festivals, make contacts with clients regarding functions and to co-ordinate with executive chef in menu planning and staffing, study market trends by visiting other establishments and carry out food hygiene programme in the establishment.

Trade Specific Competencies

Knowledge on Food Hygiene and Safety

Food & Beverage Managers, especially those who run their own restaurant, must understand all aspects of the restaurant business. They should know how to budget for supplies, set prices, and manage workers. They should possess professional knowledge on food hygiene and safety. Holders of "Basic Food Hygiene Certificate for Hygiene Supervisors" and/or "Basic Food Hygiene Certificate for Hygiene Managers" recognised by the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department in Hong Kong would be an advantage.

General Requirements

Academic qualification

  • Higher Diploma/ Associate Degree or equivalent

Professional qualification

  • holders of "Basic Food Hygiene Certificate for Hygiene Supervisors" and/or "Basic Food Hygiene Certificate for Hygiene Managers" recognised by the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department in Hong Kong would be an advantage

Experience

  • 5 to 10 years of relevant work experience
